Imagine
this...
You very carefully plan your direct mail campaign. The timing
is right and everything happens according to schedule. You've spent
a lot of time coming up with just the right phrases and techniques,
your well crafted and highly targeted letter goes out on time and
soon the responses start coming back. You breathe a sigh of relief
because it is working. After 5 or 6 weeks almost 10% of the people
you mailed to have responded. Your campaign was a roaring success...
by direct mail standards. But consider this: 90% DIDN'T respond
and you don't even know why! You need to find a cost effective way
to reach these people.
- Telemarketing provides a much higher return than mail does.
It takes far less time to complete and in most cases provides
the only opportunity you'll have to find out what your supporters
and members are thinking. We use this opportunity to ask questions
and find out what's on their mind.
- Telemarketing requires no additional work by your staff other
than to process payments, orders and donations.
- Telemarketing provides valuable marketing feedback. The client
receives the information gathered during each call. This allows
you to use the calls for informational purposes as well.
What You Should Know Before Signing a Contract?
If
you are considering various telemarketing firms, we want you to
become an educated buyer.
Ask the telemarketing company about their depth and breadth of
experience with non-profit and professional organizations. Ask for
a minimum of twenty credible references and require daily, bi-weekly
and a life-of-program basis reports, as well as a daily phone conference
with your account executive.
Ask to view their standard telemarketing contract. Look for a contract
that is created with you in mind and does not commit you to spending
a minimum amount. Never sign a contract with payment based on a
percentage of funds raised. All telemarketing contracts should be
open-ended and cancelable at anytime.
Telemarketing contracts should not have hidden costs or charges,
but be designed to protect you from loss. Remember that you are
the client, so ask for the contract to conform to your normal payment
policies. Choose a company that will also honor your freedom of
choice with a contract that gives you the discretion to bring in
a new telemarketing company to test with the previous or current
provider.
